Angelswin.com 2018 Primer Series: Bullpen

By Robert Cunningham, Angelswin.com Senior Writer Edited by Chance Hevia (Inside Pitch) and Jason Sinner (Dochalo) If there was one thing that went really right in 2017 it was the Angels bullpen, sporting a 3.92 ERA (11th), 6.6 WAR (5th), 18.5% K%-BB% (5th), 1.20 WHIP (5th), and .238 BAA (12th), spread out over 569 IP (8th most). Leading that charge was Yusmeiro Petit, whom Eppler signed out of free agency, followed closely by waiver-wire claim, Blake Parker.

Parker Bridwell on MLB Network’s “MLB Central”

Leading up to yesterday’s day game, Parker Bridwell joined MLB Network via Ballpark Cam to discuss the following items with MLB Central’s Mark DeRosa, Matt Vasgersian and Hall of Famer John Smoltz : Here’s some highlights of the segment with Parker Didwell. On what works for him, Bridwell responded , “Primarily I’d say executing fastball command, being down in the zone early, and when guys are hacking it really works in your favor and helps you be more efficient. If I can get an out in two pitches instead of three then I’m gonna be in good shape and I’m gonna do that every time if I can.

Last Week in Angels Baseball: The “!!!” Edition

By Glen McKee, Staff Writer Believe it not, there isn’t a whole lot of preparation for writing this column.  I give it a bit of thought during the games throughout the week.  Then, on Monday morning when I take my dogs for a walk I try to solidify it and see what sticks in my head, in between finding dead bodies, loose cash, tools, and golf balls

Minor League Prospects in Need of a Promotion

The Angels have historically been ultra-conservative when it comes to promoting their promising talent.  With each new regime that comes in, comes a different approach.  While Eppler’s regime has shown to be more aggressive in its promotions than its predecessors (Reagins regime was comically bad at this, and everything else) they’ve still shown to take longer than most other organizations.

Last Week in Angels Baseball: The “Heading Into the ASB Like…” Edition

By Glen McKee, Staff Writer So it’s the All-Star break now, which means a few things: first, I won’t be writing this article next week and reliving the misery, and B, the Angels will have Mike Trout back on Friday (no whammy).    It was a bad week, a very bad week, as if the Angels decided to just say “eff it” until Trout gets back.  How bad was it?

Angels Top 30 Prospects Mid-Season Edition

The Angels farm system is frequently overlooked by many experts, which was warranted two years ago but has since become an outdated look of the farm system.  With high draft picks and multiple prospects acquired via trade, the farm system is now well on its way to becoming one of the best in baseball. *Note – Recent international signees such as Trent Deveaux would certainly rank among the Top 30, however, because we haven’t had a first hand look and there are either vague or conflicting reports regarding these prospects, we’ve held off from including them in this version of the Top 30

Angels bullpen could become expensive in 2018

Enough ink has been spilled as to Billy Eppler’s bang up job building an Angels bullpen that is surprisingly the strongest we’ve seen in years.  But if there’s one thing we know about valuable commodities in baseball, it’s that teams don’t want to lose it, and will pay handsomely to retain it.  This, along with inflation has contributed toward the meteoric rise in free agency contracts

The Inland Empire 66ers and Visalia Rawhide kicked off their 3 game series on on a cold Tuesday night as Visalia claimed the 1st game of the series.
