Cavaliers working on blockbuster trade to land Jimmy Butler

The Cleveland Cavaliers seem to have an idea as to how they can fight back after the Golden State Warriors added Kevin Durant—by swinging a trade with the Chicago Bulls for Jimmy Butler. No joke here. The Cavaliers want to add a top-15 player of their own alongside LeBron James for what would be a fourth consecutive Finals bout with the Warriors

Lakers sound ready to trade D’Angelo Russell if it nets a first-round pick

The Los Angeles Lakers might finally trade point guard D’Angelo Russell. Russell has been the subject of trade rumors essentially since he arrived in Los Angeles. His slower-than-expected transition to the pros and an odd clash and so-called snitching affair surrounding teammates didn’t help.

Greg Olsen and Panthers sound headed toward contract drama

The Carolina Panthers have plenty of problems heading into a summer after a down season. Tight end Greg Olsen wasn’t necessarily expected to be one of them. Alas, it sounds like the veteran has his eye on a brand new deal given both his performance and the developing market at his position.  Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer noted the budding situation: Olsen, who’s made the Pro Bowl the past three seasons, is looking for a deal that is commensurate with the NFL’s top tight ends, according to a pair of league sources.

Ameer Abdullah doesn’t want to hear about RBs Lions could’ve added this offseason

Detroit Lions third-year running back Ameer Abdullah isn’t worried about potential competition in his backfield. The Lions avoided signing a veteran such as Adrian Peterson this offseason, then turned around and ignored the spot in the draft despite many pundits expecting the front office to hit the position.

Remembering a class act named Michael Jackson— no, not that one—

Excuse me please for indulging in some sympathy for a Raven— but I was personally blown away yesterday by the news  that former Ravens wide receiver Michael Jackson bought it big time Friday night on a lonely highway in Louisiana. I (as a lowly cub reporter) used to interview Michael Jackson at his favorite post-practice restaurant named McCafferty’s on Sulgrave Avenue in the Mount Washington section of Baltimore. The guy was so open to questions and so relaxed in answering them, we often wound up eating dinner together.
