Ameer Abdullah doesn’t want to hear about RBs Lions could’ve added this offseason

Detroit Lions third-year running back Ameer Abdullah isn’t worried about potential competition in his backfield. The Lions avoided signing a veteran such as Adrian Peterson this offseason, then turned around and ignored the spot in the draft despite many pundits expecting the front office to hit the position.

Remembering a class act named Michael Jackson— no, not that one—

Excuse me please for indulging in some sympathy for a Raven— but I was personally blown away yesterday by the news  that former Ravens wide receiver Michael Jackson bought it big time Friday night on a lonely highway in Louisiana. I (as a lowly cub reporter) used to interview Michael Jackson at his favorite post-practice restaurant named McCafferty’s on Sulgrave Avenue in the Mount Washington section of Baltimore. The guy was so open to questions and so relaxed in answering them, we often wound up eating dinner together.

Report: Max Unger could return in preseason

A day after it looked like he would miss the start of the regular season, the news about Max Unger is a little better. A source told Pro Football Talk that the Saints are counting on the center to return during the preseason. Unger was bothered by a foot injury last season and missed a Week 14 game because of it

Bob Knight on ex-Indiana bosses: ‘I hope they’re all dead’

Bob Knight spent 29 seasons as head coach of the Indiana University men’s basketball team, but he’s clearly still salty about how his tenure there came to an end. Knight was fired in 2000 after some of his players claimed that he abused them both mentally and physically, which is something that would get any coach fired. But he doesn’t see it that way, and hasn’t been to a game at Assembly Hall since his firing.

Russell Westbrook flattens Harrison Barnes, gets flagrant foul (VIDEO)

Russell Westbrook put Harrison Barnes on his backside during Sunday night’s game. It happened in the third quarter of the game, after he and Seth Curry traded shoves. Barnes set a hard screen right after, which didn’t go over well with Westbrook.

Mike Pereira: Chips in footballs wouldn’t improve spotting

One of the biggest mysteries of sports is how football officials spot the ball. The ball is often hidden underneath a tangle of bodies, and it’s hard to believe that there isn’t a little bit of guesswork involved. It would seem that putting a microchip in the football would make the science a little more precise, but former NFL head of officiating and current Fox NFL analyst Mike Pereira said that’s not the answer.

Vlade Divac trolls DeMarcus Cousins in post-trade press conference

Kings general manager Vlade Divac, after hearing all the criticism about the DeMarcus Cousins trade, appeared to reveal why the team made the move on Monday. The team held a press conference on Monday to officially announce the trade, and Divac delivered a statement that talked about how “culture” is important in building a winning team, and how much “character matters.” This was clearly a reference to Cousins, who has had his issues with technical fouls and erupting during games.

Tom Brady misses badly on tackle attempt (VIDEO)

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was clearly flustered during the first half of Super Bowl LI, after getting hit 11 times during that time, and it showed. Brady threw a pick-six late in the second quarter on an ill-advised throw into coverage, and Robert Alford returned it 82 yards to the house. Brady had a chance to tackle him during his runback, though, but failed miserably and it was pretty funny to watch
