Esteban Loaiza, who spent 14 years in the league, and nearly won the Cy Young award back in 2003, was arrested for possessing over 20 kilograms of cocaine in San Diego on Friday, according to police records obtained by Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

Editorial: Best WBC Yet, but Things Could Get Better

With team USA’s lopsided win over Puerto Rico, another World Baseball Classic is in the books and for the first time ever, there seems to be more positive commentary than negative. The games were generally competitive and entertaining (even if the final game was a blow out) with very few games being decided by the mercy rule.

Where’s Ricky Otero When You Need Him?

from loyal reader ‘Preserve Jon:’ I’m really surprised how bad he is. It seems that Charlie is inventing a few nicks and scrapes to keep him on the bench.

First Round of “Re-Assignments”

The Phillies made their first round of Spring Training cuts today with the following players re-assigned to minor league camp: Pitchers: Adam Morgan, JC Ramirez, Kyle Simon, Joe Savery; Infielders: Michael Martinez and Cody Asche, Catcher: Tommy Joseph and Outfielder: Joe Mather. Joining that group on Monday at the minor league complex will be Pitchers Jonathan Pettibone and Ethan Martin, along with outfielder Zach Collier.  None of these moves were unexpected, although I am slightly surprised Savery’s demotion came so early. Of the above group, the most impressive in limited action this Spring were Morgan, Joseph, and Asche
