Carlos Beltran Retires After 20 Big League Seasons

It turns out that the Houston Astros’ World Series championship will serve as a coda to Carlos Beltran’s career. The talented outfielder, who played 20 big league seasons, announced his retirement today in a post on The Player’s Tribune. Beltran played for seven teams, including the New York Mets, who signed him as a free agent prior to the 2005 season

UFC 217 Fighter Salaries, Reebok $, Attendance & Gate

Before we go any further, we should note that the  New York State Athletic  Commission  doesn’t release fighter pay info, so none of the following salary data for the event is official .  However, you can get a fairly accurate picture of a fighter’s pay based on official purse info released from past fights.  So, based on that info, here is the estimated pay breakdown for the 22 fighters that traded blows at the event (we’re basing GSP’s purse on what Brock Lesnar earned for his comeback fight at UFC 200) . But please remember – this is only an estimate, not official info, especially for any fighters that made their UFC debuts at the event

UFC Performance Based Fighter Rankings: Welterweights: Oct 27/17

ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – SEPTEMBER 02: Darren Till of England celebrates victory against Bojan Velickovic of Serbia after their Welterweight bout during the UFC Fight Night at Ahoy on September 2, 2017 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. (Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty Images)   There is constant debate about the “official” UFC fighter rankings, which are based on voting from a panel of journalists.  Such is the case with something as subjective as voting – it’s totally based on voter’s opinion, and biases are bound to seep through, whether intentional or no.

UFC Career Fighter Earnings

Which fighter has earned the most money over the course of their UFC career?  We’ve crunched the numbers and have the answer for you.  And the names at the top of the list probably won’t surprise many. But, before we reveal the list, first some ground rules.  Athletic commissions didn’t start releasing fighter purse info until 2004, so the info below only reflects money earned from UFC 46 and onward.  Also, these are only the reported salaries plus Fight of the Night, Knockout of the Night and Submission of the Night bonuses that have been made public.  Many top performing fighters get additional bonuses paid out to them that aren’t reported, plus the top guys get a cut of the pay-per-view buys for events that they headline (not to mention every fighter makes sponsorship money).  Official UFC Reebok sponsorship money was added into the figures starting with UFC 189.  Also, many athletic commissions don’t report fighter’s salary info, so for those we’ve estimated a fighter’s purse based on what they have earned in their other fights.  Fighters with some estimated purses are marked with a * in the database.  This data should still be considered very close to accurate, as most fighters’ purses remain rather predictable from fight to fight (unless they ink a new contract in the meantime)

Report: Scott Boras Is Planning A Heavy Throwing Program For Matt Harvey This Winter

One of the lingering mysteries surrounding the New York Mets for the past few years is what happened to Matt Harvey. Harvey has spiraled downward the past few seasons, going from a high of eight brilliant innings in Game 5 of the 2015 World Series to a pitcher with an ERA of almost seven this season.

We Should All Quit Like This

I don’t know how he did it, but Terry Collins saved his best double switch for last. The season ended yesterday. I’d say “mercifully ended”, but I’d hardly call an 11-0 loss to the Phillies merciful (except for the fact that Noah Syndergaard threw a 26th pitch without being carried away on a gurney.) The game will fly away with the grace of a southern elephant seal, leaving a waft in the air which has the unmistakable scent of Chris Flexen and Rafael Montero forfeiting their right to be anywhere near this team in 2018

In his return from exile, Noah Syndergaard threw one slider, then four fastballs, and got three outs. And as far as anybody knows, he suffered zero injuries.

Chester County’s Joey Wendle hits grand slam as A’s beat Phillies

Wendle ripped a first-pitch slider from Edubray Ramos, almost bending down on one knee as he golfed it to right field.
