It looked like the Seattle Mariners might have had something when Michael Saunders arrived on the scene in 2009. The 22-year-old could pick it in the outfield, ran pretty well, had some pop and could take a walk. Saunders scuffled a bit, then seemed to put it together in 2012, knocking 19 homers, swiping 21 bases, slapping 31 doubles and producing 57 runs batted in and 71 runs in just 139 games

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The best lefthanded reliever the Phillies used last season was demoted to high-A Clearwater at the end of April. He had been jettisoned from the 40-man roster, did not attend major-league spring training, and arrived with the Phillies last September throwing 95-mph fastballs.

The Phillies needed a utility infielder, so they brought back a familiar face in the form of Andres Blanco. “Whitey”, as he’s known to the team, has been a positive fixture in the clubhouse over the past 3 years and churned out some decent stats too: 221 G, .274/.795, 62 R, 42 DBL, 12 HR, 49 RBI, 1.7 WAR while playing 2B, SS, 3B, and 1B. He signed a 1 YR/$3M deal, so he’s not going to be blocking any prospects.
It’s official. The Phillies have signed right-handed reliever, Joaquin Benoit to a one-year contract. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Phillies have designated RHP Michael Mariot for assignment
